Who can help me with my visa application?

Categories: Immigration Help

There are a variety of options if you feel that you need help with your visa applications to Canada. Many people choose to go it alone and submit their visa applications without any help. However, others appreciate getting professional help.

Whichever option you choose, you should always make sure that you get the best advice possible so that you can make informed decisions. There are three types of people who can legally help you with your visa application: the Citizenship and Immigration Canada, Immigration Lawyers and Immigration Consultants.

Citizenship and Immigration Canada

The government department in charge of immigration to Canada, and Alberta, is called Citizenship and Immigration Canada. They have full jurisdiction over immigration to Canada, excluding Quebec, which has control over its own immigration policy.

Immigration Consultants and Lawyers

Many people find that the immigration process is complex without assistance. Canada allows the use of Immigration Consultants and lawyers to help you with your application.

To be allowed to give immigration advice, immigration lawyers must be registered with a law society or bar association or a Canadian province or territory.

Immigration Consultants must be registered with the Canadian Society of Immigration Consultants (CSIC) in order to give immigration advice. This means that they have passed an intensive course, and are professionally licensed and regulated.

Always ensure that any immigration advice you receive comes from a registered lawyer or CSIC consultant.

    good day!

    Hi Ivy,

To find out if he is a member of CISC, you can search for members with last names starting with “R”:

    http://www.csic-scci.ca/find/all.html#R

However, you should note that if he is a registered lawyer in a Canadian province, (meaning he is a member of the bar or governing association for lawyers in his province), than he does not need to be CSIC registered to provide immigration advice. Registered lawyers do not have to be members of CSIC, as they are considered to be qualified to give advice and are regulated by their own professional body.

    Good luck!

Hi good morning or good evening, i would like to ask if the processing fee is paid in US dollar instead of Canadian dollar? is processing fee of $700 is legal i was just confuse it a huge amount of money and when i try to search for the working visa in web site of canadian embassy, it only cost 500 canadian dollar…… need your help….. im ordinary citizen of the Philippines and looking for a greener pasture to give my family a good life….. Looking forward for your immediate response…..Thank you

  4. admin on June 21st, 2008

    Hi Milagros,

Any official Canadian visa application fee will be made in Canadian dollars, not US dollars. Make sure you know what you’re paying for when you give money to an immigration consultant. No private company can guarantee the success of a visa application. Good luck!

hi im from Philippines. I have an Aunt who has a restaurant there in Alberta,Canada so she hired me as food attendant ..I also got an LMO approved last Aug.27, 2008. So i applied a temporary work permit in CIC. But unfortunately i got a refusal letter stating that the visa officer was not satisfied with my application. My present job is a teller in an electric company and i also have a 6months exprienced as a part-time food attendant. Can i apply again for a work permit eventhough i got already a refusal letter from CIC and how can i convince a visa officer?
