What is a regulated profession?

Categories: Professions

In Canada, some professions are regulated by the government because they could affect public safety or security. Some examples of regulated professions are engineers, doctors, lawyers and accountants. To work in a regulated profession in Alberta, you must be issued a license or certification from the professional association that governs your profession.

It is against the law to practice a regulated profession if you are not registered in good standing with your professional association!

What is a professional association?

Professional associations are the groups which regulate professions in Alberta. Each regulated profession is overseen by a different association. Professional associations set the standards of practice, decide who is eligible for certification or licensing, and help to enforce professional standards.

Professional associations are sometimes called colleges and societies.

When you apply for your license or certification, your professional association will usually ask for proof of your education, work experience and good character.

I would like to inquire if my job outside CANADA as a Computer Engineer is applicable to Alberta? I have more than 15 years of experience in my field of profession and i am planning to immigrate to Alberta if GOD permits.

What are the necessary steps to do inorder to land the same job in Alberta?
