What are the main visas for Canada?
Categories: Immigration
Unless you are a Canadian citizen or Permanent Resident, you will need to go through the process of immigrating to Canada. Once you have a visa to Canada, you can live and work wherever you choose, including Alberta!
Skilled Worker Visa
The skilled worker visa is the most popular way for independent workers to make Canada their permanent home. The Skilled Worker Visa gives you the right to work and live anywhere in Canada, including Alberta, and eventually even work towards Canadian citizenship. Canada uses a points-based immigration scheme to process Skilled Worker Visa applications. You need 67 points in order to be eligible.
You will score points based on a variety of factors. Points-factors include your educational history, your work experience, your age, and your ability to adapt to life in Canada.
Alberta also has a Provincial Nominee Program designed to allow certain applicants to have their applications fast-tracked, if they have the skills that the Alberta economy needs.
Temporary Work Permit
The Temporary Work Permit is a Canadian visa that allows foreign workers to work in Canada for a limited period of time.
Usually, you will need to have a bona fide job offer from a Canadian employer before you can apply for a Temporary Work Permit. In most cases, Temporary Work Permits are issued for the length of your employment contract: usually six months. This can often be extended along with your employment.
