How can I find an oil job in Alberta?
Categories: Job Hunting
Thanks to the development of Alberta’s Oil Sands, there are a variety of major companies hiring for almost every trade and profession to work in Alberta. However, to find an oil job in Alberta, you still have to know where to start looking.
It’s best to have a clear job search plan mapped out before you arrive in Alberta, even in a hot job market like Fort McMurray, the centre of the Oil Sands development boom. Although there are plenty of jobs available, the process of interviewing potential employers, finding a position you want to work in, a place to live, a bank account, etc, can take at least two or three weeks. This is time that you may be out of pocket for expenses.
Working to secure a job offer ahead of time, or at least having a job search plan set up before you arrive can help you get to work as soon as possible after you arrive.
Remember to have a good Alberta resume prepared before you arrive.

Fort McMurray maintains a database of current Labour Market Information to help newcomers get a feel for what trades are in highest demand. Having an accurate picture of the labour market in the oil sands can make your job search easier.
